The bodies of two men have been recovered from the canal at Grand Parade in Dublin.
Gardai said they are investigating the circumstances after the bodies were found on Saturday morning.
Gardai and emergency services attended the scene shortly after 8am.
A spokesperson said: “The bodies of two males, aged in their 40s, were recovered from the canal a short time later.
“Both were pronounced deceased at the scene.
“The scene is preserved, and a garda cordon is in place.
“The office of the state pathologist and the local coroner have been notified.
“The results of post-mortem examinations and local inquiries will determine the course of garda investigations.”
Gardai have identified both individuals but the formal identification process is still continuing.
Emergency services have erected a screen around the scene, which is underneath a bridge in one of the busiest parts of Dublin city centre.
A number of people have been sleeping in tents close to the scene where the bodies were found.
