JAMES Fryers tops tonight’s action-packed bill at the Europa Hotel when he takes on Maxi Hughes in the headline act.
Former Immaculata ABC star Fryers is unbeaten up to now but he faces a decent test against Hughes whose two losses have come into title fights. The Yorkshire southpaw lost a WBC International super featherweight title in April last year against Martin Ward.
But Fryers, who went 5-0 last year, and finished 2015 in fine fashion by stopping Ruslans Berdimuradovs in Estonia, should have too much for him and will enter the frame for a crack at the British super-featherweight title.
The chief support sees James Tennyson (15-1) in a six-round contest against Antonio Horvatic (Croatia) in a warm-up for his looming British Featherweight title challenge.
At lightweight, Paul Hyland jnr takes on Poland’s Jacek Wylezol, while 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medallist Joe Fitzpatrick (3-0) looks to be in a real shootout and he takes on Ruslans Burdimuradovs (8-5) who is fresh from winning a local Latvian Prizefighter competition.
Hot prospect Fergal McCrory should get a good workout against Hungarian Peter Mellar over four rounds at lightweight and Tyrone McCullagh (2-0) has his first fight on home soil as a professional against Antons Zacets (2-1) of Latvia at super-bantamweight.
