Teenage boy and pedestrian left in a critical condition after crashes in west Belfast and Co Armagh

A teenage boy and a pedestrian were both left fighting for their lives over the weekend after separate crashes in west Belfast and Co Armagh.

Both incidents took place within an hour of each other on Friday evening.

The first was reported in the Stewartstown Road area of west Belfast around 9.30pm, where a vehicle collided with a male pedestrian.

He was taken to hospital, with police stating the next morning that he remained in a critical condition.

By 10.20pm on Friday, a serious single-road crash involving a black Volkswagen Golf was reported on the Sturgan Road, Camlough.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers attended the scene along with our colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.

“The back-seat passenger of the car, a 16-year-old boy, was transported to hospital for life-threatening injuries. He remains in a critical condition in hospital at this time.”

An 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, who were also in the front of the vehicle, were taken to hospital as well for non-life-threatening injuries.

The road was reopened by Saturday morning and a police investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances.

Enquiries are also continuing over the west Belfast crash, with witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage asked to call 101, quoting reference 2021 for Camlough or 1917 for west Belfast on October 27.
