POLICE are investigating a "potential link" between an attempted armed robbery and attempted burglary, two successful creeper burglaries resulting in two car thefts and road crash in a Co Down town.

At around 2.30pm a man entered an unspecified commercial premises on Ballynahinch's High Street armed with a knife.

He used threats to demand a female member of staff hand over money from the till, however, none was handed over.

The man then made off towards Windmill Street.

He is described as wearing a black face mask, a grey woolly hat, grey tracksuit bottoms, a black padded coat and blue surgical gloves.

The next potentially connected crime came shortly after 5.20pm when police said an "unknown man" had gained entry to a house at Croob Park.

A woman who was at home saw him, at which point he made off on foot.

He was described as wearing a dark coloured jacket, dark coloured tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

Twenty minutes later police received a report of a `damage only' one-vehicle road traffic collision at Dunmore Road.

The a grey Mazda car involved had been taken following a creeper style burglary at the Woodridge area of the town.

The man who made off from the scene was also described as wearing dark coloured clothing.

At around 8.35am on Saturday, police received a report that a Ford Fiesta was stolen during a creeper style burglary at Ballymaglave Road sometime between 1am and 5.30am.

It was reported that two sets of keys taken and the vehicle was last seen travelling along Belfast's Crumlin Road at around 5.55am.

The PSNI has appealed for "anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the times of the incidents, to contact detectives.
