Creeper burglary and police chase lead to arrest

A CREEPER style burglary in west Belfast had led to a teenager being arrested.

Detectives also recovered a stolen LandRover Discovery jeep following a short pursuit of the 18-year-old suspect in the Springmartin and Ballygomartin areas yesterday morning.

Police say he was arrested in connection with a number of offences after the vehicle crashed into two cars.

A spokesman said they received a report shortly before 7am that a house had been entered and a vehicle stolen.

Inspector Andrew McConville said: "Details of the vehicle were circulated and it was located a short time later by a police patrol on the Springfield Road. Police followed the vehicle as it travelled at through the Springmartin and Ballygomartin areas.

"At this point, police signalled for the vehicle to stop, but it made off, travelling in the direction of the Springfield Road. Police pursued the vehicle for a short distance, before it crashed into two parked cars on the Upper Whiterock Road.

"The male driver ran from the vehicle, but was detained by police officers, and he is currently in custody helping with ongoing enquiries."
