The founder of a Belfast-based software company has created a unique product that will minimise smart phone distraction for safer driving.

Mel Morrison, CEO at Bluesona is the brains behind the new smart system Loop, a product inspired by his daughter taking driving lessons.

Loop, a small vehicle safety cuff works as a small phone holder that drivers can place anywhere they like within their car.

Easy to use and quickly set up, the Loop system silences notification's allowing drivers to fully concentrate on the road.

The app prevents road users from sending texts or using social media but it allows drivers to listen to music, use google maps and even call their guardian if necessary.

Once purchased Loop is available to both the driver and a guardian, meaning parents are notified once a phone is disconnected from the cuff.

They will receive data through the guardian app that will allow them to pinpoint an exact location and time the driver took their phone out.

Although there are safe driving apps already in existence this product is unique in its ability to notify parents.

Founder of Loop Mel said:

“We know there is a lot of applications out there, but statistics show that they are not working. After research I felt that there needed to be a better product for parents to use.

“It’s pretty unique actually, there is really nothing like it on the market so there is a great opportunity for Loop.”

Although the inspiration behind the system was his daughter, Mel realized the potential for a wider market.

“The opportunity for this is global, insurance companies could come on board because our app and messaging service is completely different to what is out there on the market.

“We also found that haulage companies recognise a problem with their drivers misusing their mobile phone.

“Loop is such a cheap product that could protect not only their brand but also their drivers, their loss of money and insurance premiums rising,” he said.

The product has been tested in four large schools within co.Down with Bluesona listening to feedback and working to create a product that the end user is happy with.

Loop will be launched in eight weeks time and is already available to preorder.

“We are so excited to be launching the product. At a cost of around 70 pound it is a good spend for any parent for peace of mind,” Mel commented.

Ahead of its launch, Bluesona showcased their new product at this years Digital DNA event held at St George’s market where Mel used to sell fruit and vegetables.

“My family still sell fruit and veg in here, I’ve always been a market trader by heart.

“Looking around brings back so many memories of when I used to shout 10 oranges for a pound.”
