Warrior Soul, DistortionFest 16, Saturday October 29, The Limelight 2 / Katy's, Belfast, 12pm

HARD rocking, confrontational, genre blurring, coulda-woulda-shoulda-been-huge riff monsters Warrior Soul return to Belfast next weekend to headline DistortionFest 16 – an all day multi-band bill celebrating 16 years of local rock and metal loving promoters The Distortion Project.

The Kory Clarke-fronted act – which released a trio of LPs on Geffen in the 1990s starting with their stone cold classic debut, Last Decade Dead Century – played their first ever Irish headline dates back in 2011, including a pair of storming northern gigs at The Diamond Rock Club and Auntie Annie's.

Sadly, only about 50 people turned up to the latter – hopefully, there will be a fair few more punters up for taking in bracing renditions of Kory's evergreen outsider anthems like F*** The Pigs, Love Destruction, The Drug, Charlie's Out of Prison and The Losers at The Limelight.

And why wouldn't they, especially given the smorgasbord of international and Irish rock talent on the bill: Lord Volture (Holland), Bloodway (Romania), Valborg (Germany) and Bloodthread (Scotland) join Rabid Bitch of The North, Zlatanera, Stormzone, Sinnocence, Drakonis and Erosion were confirmed at time of writing, with more acts still to be announced.

All that for a tenner? It would be cheap at twice the price just for Warrior Soul alone.
