DEFENDING champion Neil Duff bowed out of the WDF World Darts Championship at the quarter-final stage, dramatically exiting 4-3 at the hands of Dutch ace Chris Landman at Lakeside in Surrey - before taking aim at the legendary Phil 'The Power' Taylor.

The Co Antrim joiner made headlines last year when he landed the title - and £50,000 top prize - at the age of 50.

Duff will now target the seniors tour, where he would love to take on the 16-times World champion Taylor (63), who has said he will retire next year.

"I want to play Phil Taylor before he retires - we're actually good friends. The seniors is amazing and I sit in the players' room in awe at the conversations with these guys talking about the old days. Sometimes you just have to pinch yourself and think how has everything gone so surreal," said Duff.

Attention will now turn to the glitzy PDC World Championship - top prize £500,000 - which starts on Friday at Alexandra Palace in London.

Belcoo and Clonoe could go head to head with the second round draw pairing good pals Brendan Dolan and Mickey Mansell.

As the 28th seed, Fermanagh arrow ace Dolan goes straight into the last 64, while the Clonoe Cyclone must first overcome China's Xiaochen Zong.

Co Antrim's 22-year-old rising star Josh Rock - the 23rd seed - faces Luke Woodhouse or Berry van Peer, while Derry's 27th seed Daryl Gurney tackles Steve Beaton or Wessel Nijman.

The great Michael van Gerwen awaits Meathman Keane Barry if the 21-year-old can get the better of Reynaldo Rivera.

Limerick's William O'Connor must overcome Bhav Patel to get a shot at 17th seed Chris Dobey.

Carlow's Steve Lennon plays Owen Bates ahead of a potential showdown with ninth seed Jonny Clayton.
