WWE star Sheamus has said a wrestling event at Croke Park "should happen" and "would be incredible".

The Irish wrestler, who is from Dublin, said the organisation could hold one of its major pay-per-view events such as Summerslam or Wrestlemania at the home of GAA.

After success outside the US with Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia and Clash at the Castle which filled the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff Sheamus said: “We’ve been to all these big cities in America but just put it over in Ireland, it shows that people tune in, whether it’s Saudi Arabia pay-per-view or Clash at the Castle, even if it’s in a different time zone, people will want to see it.”

The WWE recorded record sales of its streaming platform “WWE Network” at the end of 2022 with many wrestling fans using the app to watch events live.

WWE also have a number of Irish wrestlers on their roster alongside Sheamus such as former WWE Universal Champion Finn Balor, former Raw and Smackdown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch and JD McDonagh.

Sheamus said: “It should happen, Croke Park would be incredible.”

He also recalled a previous event in Dublin.

“I remember years ago when I was actually working as security for the RDS show, if that wasn’t evidence enough of how big the support is over here for WWE, then I don’t know what else is."

Seamus continued: “We’d fill Croke Park for sure. Imagine people coming from all over Europe to Croker, it’d be insane, especially with the history that stadium has as well.

"I’ll push for it you know, we need to push harder but Summerslam in Dublin, we’d just need to watch for the rain.”

He jokingly added “We’d need to give out free umbrellas.”

WWE Live last held shows in Belfast and Dublin in April and is set to return to the 3Arena in Dublin on June 29.
