MARK Allen continued his struggles in regulation ranking events when he lost 4-2 to Jamie Jones in the first round of the BetVictor Scottish Open on Monday evening.

The world number three won the BetVictor Shoot Out on Saturday evening to gain some much-needed ranking points and ensure his place in the World Grand Prix in Leicester next month – an event which will be contested by the top 32 players on the one-year list after this week’s Edinburgh tournament.

However, on a return to the best-of-seven format, Allen was outgunned by the Welshman, who dominated after losing the first frame, firing breaks of 141, 69 and 103.

On what was a day of shocks Mark Williams, Barry Hawkins, Shaun Murphy, Hossein Vafaei.

Cork’s Aaron Hill takes on Jack Lisowski Tuesday evening for a place in the last 32, while Jordan Brown will join the action against Kyren Wilson on Wednesday.
