Division 1A
Cork 1-14 Waterford 0-20
WATERFORD put down another marker in their development on Saturday as they consigned Cork to the second defeat of their National League campaign.
Fresh from their win over Kilkenny the week before, the Déise travelled to Cork in confident mood and gave the Rebels a lesson at Páirc Uí Rinn to run out 0-20 to 1-14 winners. But for a late Pat Horgan goal, the margin of victory could have been greater for the reigning National League champions.
Dublin 1-17 Galway 0-13
IN Saturday’s other game in Division 1A, Dublin comfortably saw off Galway on a 1-17 to 0-13 scoreline at Parnell Park.
The Dubs put their opening day hammering at the hands of Tipperary behind them as David Treacy racked up 0-10 in a convincing team performance.
Galway lost defender Fergal Moore to injury while star forward Joe Canning was taken off a half-time.
Division 1B
Limerick 1-19 Kerry 1-15
LIMERICK were tested to the hilt against a Kerry side surfing the crest of a wave after last weekend’s exploits against Laois. The Shannonsiders hurled themselves into an 11-point lead at half-time (1-16 to 1-5) and despite managing only three points against the breeze in the second half did enough to emerge with the points.
Offaly 1-17 Laois 0-15
FULL-FORWARD Shane Dooley struck 12 points as 14-man Offaly saw off their Midlands rivals in Tullamore.
Joe O’Connor was red carded early in the second half when the scoreboard read 0-10 apiece but Offaly’s superior fitness was telling in the latter stages as they emerged with a crucial two points.
Wexford 1-11 Clare 0-18
CLARE ensured Wexford remain pointless after a late rally at Wexford Park. Davy Fitzgerald’s side showed more grit on the home strait to outscore their hosts by eight points to one.
Division 2A
Carlow 1-11 London 5-16
CARLOW were 1/25 favourites to beat London and they obviously believed the hype as they fell to a 17-point defeat to the rank outsiders. Kevin O’Loughlin played a major part in London’s victory with 3-9 to his name.
Division 2B
Meath 2-9 Mayo 0-19
AN impressive first-half performance laid the platform for Mayo’s surprise win against Meath yesterday at Trim. The wind-assisted Connacht side enjoyed a nine-point advantage at the break, with Kenny Feeney striking six points (two from play) and the dangerous Joseph McManus sending over three points of his own. After the break the Royals improved but Mayo held out to consolidate their unbeaten start to the league.
Division 3A
Roscommon 1-12 Monaghan 0-10
ROSCOMMON recorded a five-point win against Monaghan at Athleague to maintain their unbeaten start to the league.
The Rossies edged a low-scoring first-half (1-2 to 0-3) with Adrian Murphy striking the only goal of the game on 25 minutes. After the break Roscommon held Monaghan at arm’s length to add to their opening round victory over Louth.
Louth 2-11 Warwickshire 2-10
DIVISION 3A newcomers Warwickshire came agonisingly close to pulling off an upset in Páirc na hEireann against Louth. In the last minutes of the game the two sides were level on 2-10 but Louth landed the decisive score to pick up their first points of the campaign.
