Mannok Fermanagh SFC quarter-final: Derrygonnelly 1-11 Ederney 3-5

Ederney and Derrygonnelly will have to do it all over again after the Harps hit the last five points to snatch a draw in their Fermanagh SFC quarter final encounter at Brewster Park on Friday night.

Derrygonnelly had looked in charge at half time as they led by six, 1-5 to 0-2, but Ederney turned things around in the second half with a trio of goals to lead by five with 12 minutes left.

But back came Derrygonnelly and Rian McGovern’s late point saw the game finish in a draw.

Derrygonnelly got off to the perfect start to the game as they had the ball in the back of the Ederney net with only three minutes on the clock as a Ryan Jones free kick came off an Ederney defender and into the net.

The Harps went on to dominate proceedings in the opening quarter with Ederney taking time to settle into the contest.

The lively Gary McKenna cut in from the left and fired over before he then landed an excellent free kick from out on the left to make it 1-2 to no score.

Stephen Gilroy and Oisin Smyth rattled over scores to increase the advantage to seven points with Ederney finally getting off the mark in the 23rd minute with a Sean Cassidy point.

The St. Joseph’s side started to grow into the game after this but missed chances saw them fail to capitalise on it and although Paul McCusker fired over, a Conall Jones point from a mark left six between the sides at the interval.

However, Ederney were back on level terms two minutes into the second half as first Finbarr Gillen raced in from the left to finish to the net before Cassidy then slotted home to make it 2-2 to 1-5.

And Ederney got their noses on front for the first-time moments later as Cassidy tagged on another two points with Paul McCusker following up with another score to put them three up.

Derrygonnelly did answer with a McKenna point just before the water-break but Ederney got in for their third goal on resumption as Declan McCusker and Paul McCusker linked up to play in Mark McCauley and he finished with aplomb to make it 3-5 to 1-6.

Derrygonnelly though dug deep and they dominated the ball in the final quarter with Rian McGovern, Garvan Jones, Declan Cassidy and Conall Jones firing over to leave one in it.

And Rian McGovern showed great composure deep into added on time to slot over the equaliser as the game finished 3-5 to 1-11.
