FORMER world title challenger Jason Quigley will return to the ring for the first time since November 2021 when he takes on Kim Poulsen (30-6) on April 1 at Dublin’s National Stadium.

Quigley hasn’t fought competitively since losing to WBC champion Demetrius Andrade in New Hampshire but the Ballybofey native, back at super-middleweight, intends to put all that behind him starting with Poulsen.

“I’m excited for the next stage of my career,” Quigley told a press conference in Dublin today.

“This isn’t just ticking something off a list, this is a path that I’m on now and this is the first step on that. It is going to be good, it really is and I want to kick on for the next chapter now.

“I’m not just coming back here for the sake of it, I’m coming back here to win a world title again.”

After a glittering amateur career that included silver at the World Championships and three European gold medals, Quigley started out as a pro with Golden Boy Promotions in the USA but returned to Ireland to work with Andy Lee in the latter stages of the first chapter of his career.

“I had to make sure that I was coming back for the right reasons,” he said.

“I had a lengthy spell out of the ring but I’ve taken my time and been very patient. I’m very confident in my ability and in the heights that I can reach and I just want to get in there now, put on a clinical performance and push on.”

Donegal native Brett McGinty (6-0) will also feature on the April 1 bill. The Ricky Hatton-trained middleweight takes on Alessandro Ruggiero.

Meanwhile, Monaghan’s undefeated welterweight knockout-artist, Stephen ‘The Hitman’ McKenna (12-0 with 11 stoppages wins) takes on Zimbabwe’s Brendan Dennis (9-2) at Wembley Stadium on Saturday night.
