THE final race in the highly popular Run Forest Run Series takes place in Castlewellan on Saturday, February 25 and it is shaping up to being the biggest in the series.

Runners can choose between the 10K and 5K routes this year and over 800 have already signed up for the event, with almost every club in Northern Ireland represented as well as many non-affiliated runners and visitors taking part from as far away as New Zealand.

Many of those taking part have run every race in the series. Over 300 runners will claim their special limited edition finish T-shirts for taking part in six or more races.

Organisers Born2Run Events Company are delighted with how the series has gone over the winter and are looking forward to the final race in Castlewellan.

The series has been shortlisted for The Running Awards in London’s O2 in April and is the only one of its type in Ireland that will be represented at the awards.

All runners will receive a commemorative medal and, for those who have ran all eight races in the series, there is also a special gold bonus medal.

Age category prizes will also be presented at Castlewellan GAC after the race .

On Sunday, St Martin’s GAC host their annual 5K/10K in Desertmartin at 10:30am and the Resolution Run kicks off at 11am from Queen’s Sport.
