Derry's Ethan Doherty has been unveiled as the GAA/GPA Young Footballer of the Year for 2023 at tonight's All-Star awards' show in Dublin.

Doherty, who will face Donegal's Naomh Conaill next weekend with his club Glen, succeeds the likes of Michael Murphy, David Clifford, and Con O'Callaghan, with Ryan McHugh the last Ulster winner back in 2014.

Doherty was not able to attend the ceremony in the RDS this evening, but fellow Derry stars Conor McCluskey, Gareth McKinless, Brendan Rodgers, and Shane McGuigan were among the fifteen players on stage awarded football All-Stars for 2023 prior to the Young Footballer of the Year announcement.

Doherty flourished in a Derry side renowned for rapid transitions from defence to attack, with the wing-forward helping the Oak Leafers to consecutive Anglo-Celt Cups and back-to-back All-Ireland semi-finals.

Under the guise of Mickey Harte, Derry will kick off 2024 with the Dr McKenna Cup campaign, before they set about establishing themselves as a Division One side this spring.
