NORTHERN Ireland amateur champion Robbie McGuigan bowed out of the BetVictor Northern Ireland Open at the Waterfront in Belfast, losing 4-3 to Scotland's Anthony McGill.

The 19-year-old from Antrim, playing on a wild-card invitation, had beaten Muhammad Asif 4-1 in Sunday's first round and looked like taking a big scalp when he built a 3-1 lead against the former World Championship semi-finalist, and a 39-point lead in frame five with just the colors remaining.

However, the gritty Scot got the 12 penalty points he needed and took the colours before winning the respotted black and going on to win the next two frames and the match.

On Wednesday, Cork's Aaron Hill takes on Welshman Dylan Emery in the afternoon, while Antrim's Jordan Brown will face Yuan Sijun of China in the evening session.

Ken Doherty bowed out in round two on Tuesday, beaten 4-2 by England's Ian Burns.
