MARK Allen progressed to the third round of the BetVictor English Open on Tuesday with a 4-1 win over China’s Wu Yize in Brentwood.
Antrim’s world number three didn’t need to replicate the heavy scoring of Monday’s 4-0 win over Mostafa Dorgham, when he fired four century breaks, with his 60 in the opening frame his highest of the match.
Yize compiled his own century (104) to reduce Allen’s lead to 2-1 but Allen closed out the match, winning frame five on a respotted black.
Allen will be back in action on Wednesday, as will Fergal O'Brien, who faces Si Jiahui in the evening session.
