A point gained or a point lost.

On the bare damning statistics, Sunday's draw with Galway in Letterkenny was most definitely a point lost as Donegal rued 13 wides and three shots into the visiting keeper’s hands.

On the other hand, although the failed to score for 32 minutes of the second half, they landed three great points to earn a share of the spoils.

Eoghan Ban Gallagher is only in his second match back for his county, but played a key role throughout.

And like many of his team-mates he had decidedly mixed feelings about the outcome.

“This was one that got away and definitely after our first half performance and all those wides did not help us," Gallagher said.

“Galway really came at us in the second half, and it looked grim for a while, but I thought, that despite all the wides, we showed great character to come back and get the draw against the breeze.

“But it was very disappointing for most of the second half”.

So, what does all those wides do for the morale of the team?

Although they didn't get the win against last year's All-Ireland finalists, Gallagher feels the performance was an improvement on the previous week's defeat to Monaghan while admitting that the number of wides they clocked up can have an affect on morale.

“It makes it tough as you know that every score matters in a swirling breeze," he said of their wayward shooting.

“But the encouraging thing is that we are creating the chances and in the first few games we were just not creating chances but on another day we just have to take our chances.

“We could have put Galway away today and it is something we definitely have to improve on.

“But I was delighted with the fight we showed to come back.

“Against Monaghan the last day we were getting turned over and Monaghan profited, but today we got close and made our own turnovers and we got our reward.

“Conor O’Donnell may have missed some chances, but he still stepped up when needed and Oisin Gallen was very good too.

“And Caolan McColgan made a great interception on Rob Finnerty and that epitomised what we were about today, determined to fight to the bitter end."

Donegal travel to the Athletic Grounds on Saturday to face an Armagh team who are also on three points after four games. It's a game which will have a huge bearing on the Division One status of both teams and Gallagher know the points tally Donegal should be aiming for to remain in the top flight.

“Our main focus is Armagh is next week. If we want to be safe we need to get six or seven points and now we have Armagh away as our next challenge and hopefully we can come out on top," said the Killybegs man.
