Ruby Murray remains a Belfast legend

Ruby Murray was an incredibly talented performer and her achievement in having five songs in the same UK top 20, when still a teenager in 1955, has famously only been subsequently matched by Madonna.

She did not have an easy life, and is widely believed to have been financially exploited before her career and her health went into a premature decline, but she is still remembered with great fondness by her many fans.

The unveiling of a plaque at her childhood home off the Donegall Road in Belfast yesterday was a welcome move which will help to ensure that her legendary status is preserved.
