Speaking about the new podcast, Macmanus, 45, said: “I’m dead excited to be working with Grim again.

“He is one of my oldest friends and together with a top BBC production team, I think we’re going to make something really authentic and fun – an essential listen for all fans of music and music culture. I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

Grimshaw said: “I’m so excited to be able to spend time together discussing the week in music, from the sublime to the ridiculous.”

Lorna Clarke, BBC director of music, said: “It’s great that Annie and Nick are back in the BBC family with their unique sense of fun and passion for music.

“I can’t think of a better duo to bring music fans the inside scoop from the entertainment industry and bring together an audience of music and pop culture lovers.”

Giving out their honest opinions and recollections, Macmanus and Grimshaw will be joined by artists, friends, industry experts and listeners on the podcast.

Irish DJ Macmanus hosted the Radio One’s Dance Party for the BBC until 2021 and currently hosts the podcast Changes With Annie Macmanus, where she has spoken to celebrities including pop star Will Young, Irish comedian Joanne McNally and documentarian Louis Theroux.

Sidetracked with Annie and Nick is a BBC Audio production for BBC Sounds and it will be available weekly from September 28.
