A FATHER Ted-themed scavenger hunt will take place in Dublin this weekend to help support an Irish woman suffering from Lyme disease.

It is hoped the event will raise much needed funds to allow Denise Ryan from Rathfarnham to travel to the United States for life-saving treatment.

The 31-year-old contracted an aggressive form of the disease from tick bites while living in Canada.

Her condition steadily declined until the root cause of her illness was identified as advanced stage of lyme disease.

Ms Ryan hopes to raise €100,000 to fund a year of intensive treatment at a clinic in Seattle.

In one of her attempts to help raise money for her campaign, Ms Ryan has previously designed a Father Ted t-shirt, featuring Craggy Island's womanising milkman, Pat Mustard.

Ardal O'Hanlon, who played Father Dougal McGuire in the hit TV series, has been among a number of stars pictured wearing the t-shirt.

On Saturday, a Father Ted-themed scavenger hunt will be held around Dublin after event professionals Paul Lawford and Myriam Riand offered their services to help Ms Ryan.

The event, 'The Old Grey Whistle Hunt', begins at Merrion Square at noon and will involve participants following clues and solving puzzles around the city.

Participants will gain extra points in the dress in Father Ted themed costumes.

Prizes on offer include an Electric Picnic weekend camping ticket or two Life Festival weekend camping tickets.

Tickets are priced at €10 per person and can be purchased from www.1events.ie
