A PEDESTRIAN in his 70s who was struck by a car in Co Down has died of his injuries, police have confirmed.

The victim, who has been named locally as Derek Patterson, sustained serious injuries in the one-vehicle collision at High Bangor Road in the Meadows area of Donaghadee last Thursday evening.

A PSNI spokesperson said the collision involved a white Toyota Auris.

“Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone with information, including dashcam, CCTV or other footage, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1564 of 23/11/23," they added.

UUP Alderman Mark Brooks, who represents the Bangor East and Donaghadee DEA on Ards and North Down Borough Council, told the Irish News the deceased was "very well thought of" in the local area.

"This is devastating news for the gentleman's family, and the thoughts of everyone in the community will be with them at this very difficult time as they come to terms with his tragic loss," he said.
