ONE person has been taken to hospital following a three-car collision in Co Down.

The crash happened on the Portaferry Road in Newtownards shortly before 8.30am on Tuesday morning.

Police closed the road in both directions and advised motorists to seek an alternative route. The road remained closed into Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the NI Ambulance Service said an emergency crew and rapid response paramedic arrived at the scene.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken to Ulster Hospital," they said.
