Over a million expected to pass through Dublin Airport in next 10 days as travellers urged to arrive early

DUBLIN Airport has urged travelers to be prepared and arrive early for flights as it is expecting more than a million passengers to pass through in the next 10 days.

The DAA (Dublin Airport Authority) has said that following a busy June that has seen around 100,000 travelers arriving and departing each day, numbers are now expected to rise to around 120,000 in the days before July as schools break for the summer and families take holidays.

Those taking short-haul flights have been warned to be at terminals two hours before take-off, while long-haul travellers should be there three hours in advance.

The advice follows recent issues over parking at the airport, which is popular with travelers from the north.

The closing of a private carpark during the Covid pandemic has led to high demand at the airport's own carparks. Last month saw the DAA issue a warning that no weekend parking spaces were available anywhere on site.

The airport authority has urged those with parking needs to book in advance or consider alternative travel arrangements ahead of taking flights.

The airport recently scrapped controversial plans to introduce charges for passengers being picked up or dropped off.

Hundreds of extra workers have also been hired at the airport in a bid to prevent a repeat of last summer when passengers faced huge queues at terminals as a result of staff shortages.

DAA's Graeme McQueen said improvements have been implemented at the airport following a plan unveiled in March.

"One of the core aims of our plan is to get at least 90% of passengers through security screening in under 20 minutes this summer and we’ve exceeded this target over the past seven weeks, with 97% through in 20 minutes or less.”
