TRAVELLERS using Dublin Airport in the days ahead have been warned not to expect any available parking spaces.

The airport's operator, the DAA, has said both its long-term and short-term parking spaces are fully booked, and urged travelers not to arrive by car this weekend and to seek alternative arrangements.

DAA's media relations manager Graeme McQueen told RTÉ's News at One show that parking availability has been squeezed as a result of high passenger numbers and the closing of a nearby private carpark during the Covid pandemic.

He said the DAA is in the process of purchasing that carpark in order to expand availability as almost 100,000 passengers a day pass through the airport.

"We will have room for people who are coming to pick people up, but for people who are looking to stay for a longer period of time, it's very tight. So the message is if you don't have an existing booking, look for alternative options for the weekend ahead," he said.

Mr McQueen said the purchasing of the former private carpark is being reviewed by the Republic's Competition Authority, and the DAA hopes to get it back itno action "as soon as possible", but added it was "very unlikely" it will reopen in time for the peak summer travel period.
