FORMER PSNI Chief Constable Sir Hugh Orde is to deliver the second annual lecture in memory of the late SDLP deputy first minister Seamus Mallon.

Mr Mallon served as SDLP deputy leader to John Hume for more than 20 years. Following the establishment of the Stormont assembly and executive, he was appointed deputy first minister in 1998. A former MP for Newry and Armagh, Mr Mallon died in 2020 at the age of 83.

Sir Hugh Orde served as PSNI chief constable for seven years from 2002 before becoming president of the Association of Chief Police Officers.

Organised by the John and Pat Hume Foundation, the second annual Seamus Mallon lecture will be followed by an “in-conversation event” with Irish News columnist, Denis Bradley. Mr Bradley is a former vice-chairman of the Northern Ireland Policing Board.

The lecture and in-conversation event will take place at Ulster University’s York Street Belfast campus on Thursday November 17, starting at 6.30pm.

Further information and registration for the event is available at www.humefoundation.org.
