A man has been arrested by police investigating the murder of a man who was gunned down at his home in Antrim.

Detectives investigating last Thursday’s murder of father-of-three Liam Christie arrested a 43-year-old man in the Antrim area early this morning.

Mr Christie (44) was shot multiple times inside the house on the Ballycraigy estate he had moved into in recent weeks. He had a partner and three boys.

A 44-year-old man arrested on Monday also remains in custody after detectives were granted an extension to his detention until 1pm tomorrow.

Earlier this week, police confirmed that Mr Christie had been shot up to eight times.

A 31-year-old man arrested shortly after the fatal shooting was released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Mr Christie, originally from north Belfast and with a Catholic background, had been living in the loyalist estate for several years but had just moved to the address where he was fatally shot a number of weeks ago.

Sources told The Irish News he had been ordered to leave the area by loyalist paramilitaries but the murder is not believed to be sectarian.

Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Wilson earlier described the murder of Mr Christie as "brutal".

"Liam had three sons and a partner and they are trying to come to terms with him dying in such violent circumstances," she said.
