A MAN has been treated in hospital after being stabbed in north Belfast.

The assault occurred in the Cliftonville Road area yesterday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said a 999 call was made at 4.32pm and two emergency crews were tasked to the scene.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken by ambulance to Royal Victoria Hospital," the spokesperson added.

Police closed the Cliftonville Road to motorists as an investigation got underway. It was reopened last night.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Enquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone with any information or who may have dash-cam footage to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1317 18/04/22."

North Belfast SDLP councillor Paul McCusker said in a tweet yesterday he was "concerned to hear a male has been stabbed this evening".

He added: "It’s worrying to see an increase in knife crime on the streets."
