QUEEN'S Film Theatre (QFT) in Belfast yesterday revealed that Sir Kenneth Branagh's latest movie is its "biggest hit ever".

As news broke that Belfast had received seven Oscar nominations, the theatre also announced that it was the most successful film in the 53 year history of QFT.

The Irish premiere of the movie was held at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast in November with the film released in cinemas in Northern Ireland last month.

QFT, which Sir Kenneth also recently revealed was his favourite cinema, last night said around 9,000 people have been to see the film at its venue since it was released.

In a statement: QFT, which is located on University Square in the city, said: "We’re pleased to announce...Belfast is now our biggest hit ever.

"With over 9,000 of you booking in to see Kenneth Branagh’s ode to our home city in his favourite cinema, it’s our most successful film in all 53 years of QFT."

QFT have described the movie as "one of the most anticipated releases of the year for Northern Irish audiences" adding that it is a "personal and joyful story about the power of memory".
