A seven-year-old girl who died after being struck by a car in west Belfast will be laid to rest in a private ceremony.

Kaitlin McCoubrey-Fullerton died in the collision on Springhill Avenue shortly after 6.10pm on Saturday.

A doorstep candle-lit vigil was held in the Sliabh Dubh area, where Kaitlin lived, last night.

A woman in her fifties arrested by officers investigating the death was later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Kaitlin, from Sliabh Dubh View, is survived by her parents Jennifer and Andrew, sisters Cliona, Shannon and Sophie and wider family circle.

Due to coronavirus restrictions the Funeral Mass will be private.

PSNI Superintendent Gillian Kearney said: "Specially trained officers are continuing to provide support to those impacted during this difficult time."

She said enquiries were continuing and urged anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV footage from the area at the time to contact police.

In a Facebook post on Sunday her uncle, James Fullerton, said her family will miss her dearly.

"Last night one of our little muffins gained her angel wings and it's breaking all our hearts and we still can't believe this has happened," he wrote.

"Rest easy our little cheeky chops."
