A FUND in memory of Kaitlin McCoubrey-Fullerton, who died after she was struck by a car in west Belfast, has raised more than £8,000 towards her funeral costs.

The seven-year-old died in the collision on Springhill Avenue shortly after 6.10pm on Saturday.

A JustGiving page was set up by a family friend to raise money towards her funeral.

"Any money raised will go towards any costs for the funeral that the family will incur," he wrote.

"This is a tragic time for the family and I want to take any pressure off them whatsoever."

Kaitlin, a pupil at John Paul II Primary School on the Whiterock Road, will be buried tomorrow following a private service due to coronavirus restrictions.

The Mass of the Angels will be celebrated in Corpus Christi Church in Ballymurphy by Fr Patrick McCafferty at 1.30pm.

In a letter to parents, the school said it was "deeply saddened at the death of Kaitlin McCoubrey-Fullerton as the result of a road traffic accident".

"Kaitlin was one of our Primary 4 children and was much loved by her friends in school and by our staff," the letter read.

"This is such a tragedy for her family and the whole school community."

A woman in her fifties arrested by officers investigating the death was later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Kaitlin, from Sliabh Dubh View, is survived by her parents Jennifer and Andrew, sisters Cliona, Shannon and Sophie and wider family circle.

The Mass will be broadcast live on churchservices.tv

A candle-lit vigil in memory of Kaitlin was held on Monday night.
