POLICE have described the targeting of a woman in her nineties by distraction burglars in Co Fermanagh as a "despicable attack by cowards".

Three men entered the home of the elderly woman in the Mullaghfad Road area of Tempo shortly before 8pm on Friday.

One stayed with her while a second searched the house. All three fled in a car described as silver or gold in colour.

Nothing was reported stolen and the woman was not hurt but police said it was "a despicable attack by cowards which must have been a terrifying experience for the victim".

Officers believe there is a link with a distraction burglary on Ashbrooke Road in the village later that evening.

A gold/silver-coloured car with three men on board stopped with a householder outside his property at around 9pm.

Two asked for directions, blocking the man's view of the car reversing into his driveway.

A short time later, it was discovered someone had been in the house and a purse with money had been taken.

Meanwhile, police said a coat was also stolen from a vehicle parked at Mullaghfad Forest, outside Fivemiletown, between 7.15pm and 8.30pm on Friday.
