The Public Prosecution Service (PPS) is carrying out a review of its decision not to prosecute a man arrested on suspicion of involvement in the death of a Derry teenager almost two years ago.

Jordan McConomy (19) died following what police described at the time as an altercation in Derry’s William Street area in September 2017. The Derry teenager, who had been training to become a carpenter, was returning from a night out to celebrate a friend’s 21st birthday.

Following his death, police arrested a man on suspicion of involvement in the incident. He was later released and a file sent to the PPS who decided not to prosecute.

However, the PPS confirmed yesterday that it was now reviewing its original decision.

A spokeswoman said: “We can confirm we’ve received a request to review a decision to not prosecute one suspect reported in relation to the tragic death of 19-year-old Jordan McConomy.

“It would be inappropriate to comment any further at this stage.”

Mr McConomy’s mother, Andreana McConomy said the family would never give up its fight for justice for her son.
