Man assaulted by pair armed with suspected firearm

A MAN in his twenties has been assaulted by two men - one armed with a suspected firearm - during a burglary at his house in east Belfast yesterday evening.

The man was in his home on Holywood Road at around 7.20pm when the men entered through the front door, assaulted him and threatened a woman in her thirties.

Both men had scarves over their faces and one was dressed in dark clothing with a black rucksack around his neck.

Detective Inspector Mary White said it was important that any information about it is passed to police.

"I would appeal to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area to contact detectives at Musgrave Police Station on the non-emergency number 101," she said.

"Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
