SCOTT Quigg yesterday underwent surgery on a broken jaw following his super-bantamweight title defeat by Carl Frampton.

The English boxer suffered the injury in round four, but was able to continue fighting and went the distance before losing in a split decision.

Quigg's boxing promoter Eddie Hearn yesterday tweeted two pictures of the boxer's injury.

He wrote: "Thoughts with @scottquigg currently undergoing surgery on broken jaw, you will be back stronger".

Quigg had admitted after the fight that he suspected he had suffered the injury when he was struck by Belfast-born Frampton.

"He caught me with a good shot in the fourth. I think my jaw has gone," Quigg said.

“Fair play to him, it was a great fight. With the judges’ scorecards, I should have started faster, but it’s too late now."

Frampton last night wished Quigg well with his recovery.

The boxer from Tiger's Bay tweeted: "Thanks for sharing the ring with me @scottquigg and I wish you well in recovery. All the best mate",

Manchester United footballer Wayne Rooney, who visited Quigg in his changing room after the fight, also wished him well.

Quigg said: "He (Rooney) said to keep my chin up - I said I'd have to keep it straight first".

Rooney had backed the Bury boxer to win in a bet with Co Down golfer Rory McIlroy.

But it was McIlroy, who had backed Frampton to win, who was triumphant in their bet, with a night out in Manchester due to be paid by Rooney.

He tweeted: "YESSSS!!!! Well done @RealCFrampton! Fought a smart fight. Get your wallet out @WayneRooney!!"
