Pair charged over hammer attack on community worker

TWO men in their twenties have been charged over a hammer attack on a community worker in Bangor last year.

Aaron McMahon was attacked by a masked gang who broke into his house on Clandeboye Road on November 25 and beat him with hammers in front of his wife and children.

Both men were charged over the incident on Wednesday night.

One of the men, aged 28, was charged with aggravated burglary with intent to commit grievous bodily harm, attempted grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.

The second man, aged 26, was charged with aggravated burglary with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and attempted grievous bodily harm with intent.

The men are due to appear before Newtownards Magistrates Court on Wednesday, March 2.

Around 200 people attended a rally in support of the community worker following the brutal attack.
