SAUTE pans at the ready, the Taste of Donegal Food Festival has begun.

The festival is in its sixth year and a number of famous chefs will be joining more than 100 food and drink exhibitors in Donegal town for a weekend of chopping, cubing and cooking with flair.

Co Cavan chef Neven Maguire is among those holding a cookery demonstration, alongside Donegal chef Brian McDermott.

Their joint demonstration will take place on Saturday and Mr McDermott, who is also MC for all the cookery demonstrations, said foodies can look forward to a feast of ideas.

“Neven has been a great supporter of the festival from day one, and for me being able to introduce all these top chefs to the people of Donegal at our very own festival is just fantastic,” Mr McDermott said.

Once the Maguire/McDermott pans have cooled, Kevin Dundon will take to the stage while Shane Smith and Catherine Fulvio are lined up for Sunday.

Mr McDermott said it was an "absolute pleasure" to be able to stand on the stage and cook with produce from his own county "at a festival in my own county and to the people of the my own county".

The festival opens at 7pm tonight and there's a fireworks display at 10.20pm

A Taste of Donegal runs from Friday August 28 to Sunday August 30 in Donegal Town.
