CORPORATE restructuring and insolvency firm Interpath Advisory has named the head of its first Belfast-based team.

Stuart Irwin, who previously led KPMG’s restructuring practice in Northern Ireland, has been confirmed among the new managing directors appointed to the emerging Irish business.

Interpath was formed in 2021 when KPMG sold its 550-person UK insolvency and restructuring unit to private equity fund HIG Capital for around £350 million.

It has now secured a footing in both Belfast and Dublin. In recent days, Interpath confirmed seven new hires on the island of Ireland, including three new managing directors.

Alongside Stuart Irwin, two leading figures in the Irish restructuring profession, Ken Fennell and Mark Degnan, have joined Interpath from Deloitte.

The group said it plans to grow to at least 65 people on the island of Ireland by the end of the June next year.

After setting up a Dublin office in June, Interpath established the Belfast office in October.

Joining Stuart Irwin in Belfast is former KPMG director Ian Leonard.

Blair Nimmo, chief executive of Interpath Advisory, said: “The arrival of Ken, Mark and Stuart is a pivotal moment for us as we strive to become the leading restructuring and advisory business across Ireland and Northern Ireland.

“Ireland has long been an important centre in the global restructuring market, and we knew from the outset of the Interpath journey that we wanted to become the number one firm operating here.

“It’s no exaggeration to say the high calibre of the team we are building demonstrates the strength of this ambition.

“Between them, Ken, Mark and Stuart have decades of experience leading on some of the most high-profile and complex assignments, so we feel proud that they have chosen to join us on our journey.”
