THE UK corporate restructuring and insolvency firm Interpath Advisory will establish its first office in the north next month, The Irish News understands.

The company was formed last year after KPMG sold its 550-person insolvency and restructuring unit to private equity fund HIG Capital for around £350 million.

Subsequently rebranded as Interpath Advisory, reports in The Irish Times suggest the new firm has recruited a number of senior figures from KPMG in Belfast to lead a new Belfast office for its fledgling Irish division.

Interpath’s plans to set up a new 120-person Irish entity were first reported earlier this year, with a number of high-profile Dublin-based KPMG and Deloitte insolvency practitioners linked with the new division.

The firm’s new managing director of restructuring in Ireland is Andrew O’Leary, a former senior managing director at KPMG Ireland.

The insolvency specialist has now stepped up plans north of the border, with sources suggesting the first Belfast office is expected to be up and running during October.

The Irish Times reported on Wednesday that four members of KPMG Ireland’s corporate restructuring and insolvency team in Belfast, including practice head Stuart Irwin, are set to join Interpath Advisory’s new Irish arm in the north.

Neither KPMG or Interpath Advisory offered any comment on the reports.
