FAMILY-owner Banbridge construction firm Kane Group has completed its biggest ever London order after successfully delivering a £24 million mechanical and electrical (M&E) contract at high-rise residential scheme Southbank Place on behalf of Canary Wharf Contractors.

The 30-month contract consisted of 301 dwellings, comprising 46 affordable housing apartments, 52 assisted living apartments and 203 luxury apartments.

Kane prefabricated 398 utility pods of 47 different varieties at its local production facility and delivered to site for installation.

And the superior quality and user-friendly pods had huge efficiencies for the project team, saving around one week of manual labour per apartment.

The Kane team carried out some night-time work during the project to ensure stringent programmes were achieved, with shift work taking place on a 24-hour basis between the mechanical and electrical teams.

Managing director Cathal McMullan said: “We were delighted to work with new client Canary Wharf Contractors to deliver the Southbank Place contract.

“Utilising our in-house design and prefabrication expertise showcases our ability to successfully deliver projects in the high-rise residential market using off-site construction methods.”

Founded in 1967, Kane Group (www.kanegroup.co.uk) currently employs just under 200 staff, working across all areas of design, mechanical, electrical, public health, prefabrication and fit out projects within the residential, hospitality, education, commercial and healthcare sectors.

The firm's latest set of accounts filed at Companies House shows that in the year to March 31, its turnover fell by 20 per cent from £55.5 million to £44.5 while, while its bottom line profits halved from £2.8m to £1.4m.
