DOWNPATRICK indie rockers Ash have announced a show at the Ulster Hall in Belfast as part of an Irish tour.

The band's new album, Race The Night, is due out via Fierce Panda on September 15 and will be promoted by a tour which will include Irish stops at The Academy in Dublin on October 9 (a co-headline with The Subways), Dolans in Limerick on December 13, Kilarney's INEC Club on December 15, Cyprus Avenue in Cork on December 16, Galway Monroes on December 17 and the Ulster Hall in Belfast on December 19.

A trio of singles have already been released from the new record, including current offering Usual Places.

Frontman Tim Wheeler comments: “Originally written as a tribute to long forgotten bars and faces as I was leaving New York, Usual Places took on extra significance as the first thing we worked on together post-lockdown.

Arts Q&A: Ash frontman Tim Wheeler on Leonard Cohen, Nirvana and Van Morrison

Downpatrick musician Tim Wheeler appointed a Seamus Heaney Centre Fellow

"Below the surface of the joy of writing and playing together again, there's a subconscious grief to all that was lost in those years. Friends and family, pubs and venues. This is our eulogy to them all. No coincidence the video was shot in the Marquis of Lorne, just a walk from Brixton Academy.

Of the album itself, Wheeler describes it as "the sound of the band reveling in the sheer joy of being a band after being separated by time and distance through the insanity of the early 2020s".

Tickets for the Ulster Hall show go on sale at 10am on Friday September 1 via ulsterhall.co.uk.
