A SONG released in memory of a teenager who died in the Greenvale Hotel tragedy has raised £14,000.

'A song for Connor' was written in memory of 16-year-old Connor Currie by well-known Co Armagh musician Gerry Cunningham earlier this year.

Mr Cunningham, who sings with Celtic-rock band More Power to your Elbow, was asked to write a song by Connor's parents Eamonn and Ciara.

Cash raised from the song has been divided between Anam Cara Northern Ireland, an organisation which supports bereaved parents, and Edendork GAA club, for which the Connor played.

Connor was one of three teenagers who died during a crush outside the Greenvale Hotel in Cookstown on St Patrick's night, 2019.

The other two teenagers who lost their lives were Lauren Bullock (17) and Morgan Barnard (17).

Connor's father Eamonn last night said his family wanted to "thank each and every person who donated and downloaded his song”.

"Connor is missed every day by is family and friends and this song will mean he will never be forgotten," he said.

Ciara Currie said the fundraising drive had brought some comfort to her family.

“We have found some solace knowing the money raised by ‘A Song for Connor’ will help other parents, after the death of their child, access the support they need in their grief through Anam Cara as well as his Edendork GAA club, which was such a big part of his life," she said.

Jarlath Corrigan, a trustee and one of the founders of Anam Cara Northern Ireland, said “the generosity the public have shown Eamonn and Ciara is phenomenal.

"Anam Cara is privileged to be one of the beneficiaries of Connor's Song," he said.

“Connor’s legacy means Anam Cara will continue to provide support to recently bereaved parents through our online or face to face groups in Northern Ireland."
