The funeral has taken place of a Co Derry man whose body was missing in the River Foyle for seven weeks.

Hundreds of mourners turned out for Jack Glenn’s funeral at Ebrington Presbyterian Church on Saturday.

His parents Colin and Hester and his younger sister Katie led mourners as his remains were taken to the church from his grandparents' home in Derry’s Waterside district.

A massive search was launched after he entered the River Foyle on February 2 and they were eventually recovered last Monday.

Some of the volunteers who helped search for his remains formed a guard of honour as the hearse carrying his coffin arrived at the church.

During his funeral service Rev Paul Linkens expressed sympathy to Mr Glenn’s family.

“We are united in grief and we seek this day to stand alongside this family,” he said.

The Rev David Latimer also spoke at the service.

There were emotional scenes as the dead man’s younger sister fought back tears to read out a poem dedicated to her brother.

In a statement on behalf of his family the dead man’s uncle Wayne said they "will never ever be able to repay" those who helped find his body.

“Morning, noon and night, rain, hail and snow, we knew you would be there with us, and you were,” he said.

There were more heartbreaking scenes outside the church as Mr Glenn’s remains were removed to Altnagelvin Cemetery for burial.
