A body has been recovered from Derry’s River Foyle in the search for Jack Glenn.

Daily searches have been undertaken along the banks of the river since the 23-year-old was seen entering the water almost eight weeks ago.

Efforts were intensified after a second young man, Dean Millar (18), was believed to have gone into the Foyle two weeks ago.

Police confirmed that a body had been recovered yesterday but were unable to say if it was Mr Glenn.

In a message on social media, the 'getjackback' campaign posted: "Everyone will be aware of the reports that earlier today a body was recovered from the River Foyle by Boyne fishermen.

"At this stage the authorities are going through their procedures of formal identification. Our families hope and pray that this will be Jack and that we can finally get him home."

A talented sportsman, Mr Glenn played underage cricket for Ireland and was an accomplished footballer at junior level.

The missing man was also a member of a well-known business family in the north west. His grandfather, also Jack Glenn, ran a funeral director's in Derry.

Mr Glenn’s family and friends coordinated the daily searches of the river banks through social media and the latest technology was deployed as teams from throughout Ireland joined local groups.

A rosary vigil was also held nightly for the missing man at the Foyle Bridge, uniting people across the city.

In a message on Mr Glenn’s mother Hester's Facebook page, friend Lee Finlay said: “Been really hard nearly 8 weeks but the strength of the Glenn and Kee family have been the bravest and strongest people I’ve ever met... You are all my heroes, inspiration and friends for life.”

Meanwhile, funeral arrangements have been finalised for Donegal woman Danielle McLaughlin who was murdered in Goa in India earlier this month.

The 28-year-old's body was returned to her mother Andrea Brannigan’s home in Buncrana last night.

She will be buried following Requiem Mass at St Mary’s Church, Cockhill, Buncrana on Thursday at 11am.

A 24-year-old man appeared in court last week charged with murder and will also face rape charges.
