THE family of a missing Derry man Jack Glenn confirmed last night that a body recovered from the River Foyle on Monday has been identified as their son.

The search for the talented young sportsman had been ongoing since he entered the river almost eight weeks ago on February 2.

The family also confirmed that the funeral of the 23-year-old will take place this Saturday.

On Monday, police said that a body had been recovered and the family faced an anxious wait for identification.

Yesterday afternoon Jack's father Colin posted a message on the #getjackback Facebook page saying that the body recovered had been that of his son.

The post read: "At last I can confirm we got Jack back".

The funeral service is expected to take place at 1pm on Saturday at Ebrington Presbyterian Church followed by burial in Altnagelvin Cemetery.

Mr Glenn said: "Everyone welcome and I would love to see you all again. Thank you all for your hard work, help and support over the past 7 1/2 weeks".

Jack's grandfather, Jack Glenn snr, said finding his body was a bittersweet moment for the family.

"We're very relieved that the torment of the last seven and a half weeks is over and that we're able to bring Jack home and able to lay him to rest," he said.

The development came two weeks after the family of 18 year-old Dean Millar were left facing a similar tragedy after he is also believed to have gone into the River Foyle.
