You and Yours, Radio 4.

You've hardly slathered on a millimetre of Factor 50, when the tinkle tinkle of jingle bells sounds in the far distance. Christmas in July is just so wrong.

But, for the big shops, it's time to look ahead to December.

It led to one reporter for consumer programme You and Yours, standing in 22 C in Bermondsey in short sleeved shirt and sunglasses and tholling to Ding Dong Merrily On High.

Last year, Tesco had the £8 prosecco, this time around, yes, it’s prosecco again.

And lots and lots of vegetables. People apparently have meat-free Mondays now -so they like their veggies.

Over at the Waitrose launch, the Scandinavian trend is growing. It's all wood, wax candles, silver and white.

"Simplistic and cosy," explains one woman...tell that to the makers of The Killing.

One game is a surprise hit every year and this year it could be Speak Out - where you have to put on a mouth guard to play. It appears to involved gabbling like a turkey.

Moving swiftly on from sleigh bells, the consumer programme looked at the cost of a dream wedding day.

Research by Barclays suggests the average overspend is £7,971. Ten percent of couples still owe £10,000 from that one the day, the survey suggested.

It also said couples have, on average, nine arguments about the money spent.

How do you anchor the fantasy of a dream wedding to the harsh reality of a maxed-out credit card? Remember that old joke - you start off sinking into his arms and end up with your arms in the sink?

There was a counsellor on hand to talk about values and beliefs surrounding money and family. We heard about a charity that can help you have a wedding without a massive overdraft.

But when it comes to all the frippery that surrounds just one day, maybe it's a case of saying "I don't" more often than "I do". The same goes for all that Christmas razz a ma tazz too.
