Wolves head coach Cesar Peixoto insisted he will win the Molineux crowd over after his dominant side beat Watford 1-0 in the Sky Bet Championship.
Wolves were well on top but only had Adam Armstrong’s 35th-minute strike to show for it and fans chanted ‘You don’t know what you’re doing’ when Peixoto withdrew the goalscorer and Jordan James in the 78th minute.
Peixoto said: “If we continue to win and continue to score then things are going to change, for sure.
“I took Jordan off because Marshall Munetsi is important for us at set-pieces and is stronger in those moments.
“I understand the people and they have the freedom to do what they think, but if we had scored two or three goals, it would have been totally different.
“We would have been talking about a different environment in the stadium.
“We are going to work hard so our supporters are happy with us.
“I understand the supporters. We are going to work hard to make them happy with our play, with our results. It is our task in the club.
“I want to get the supporters behind us again. It is important for us.
“We can play better, it is true. For now, for sure, the team is going to improve in the next weeks.”
Peixoto added: “We will keep pushing the team to play well like the supporters want.
“We’re going to play well again and score goals again. I don’t have doubts about that.”
Armstrong scored on his return from a back injury for only his second Championship goal of the season and on his 450th EFL appearance.
Peixoto said: “It was important for his confidence but he is an experienced player. He will score more for sure. I have no doubts about that.”
Watford head coach Alessio Dionisi said: “I didn’t think we deserved anything in the first half because we lacked courage on the ball.
“We lost the second pass which made it difficult because the opponent is a big team who played in the Premier League last season.
“There’s a difference between us and them but the second half was different and we played with courage.
“I liked the second half from my team. But if you play without courage it’s impossible to create good situations if the other team plays better. The intensity and mentality from us in the second half was better.”
Dionisi also pointed out that Wolves’ goal came when his side were down to 10 men as striker Luca Kjerrumgaard was receiving treatment for a head injury.
Wolves forced 24 efforts but just three of those were on target. Rafiki Said and James fired wide and Said forced the first save from goalkeeper Feredico Ravaglia with a header.
Munetsi missed a glaring opening and Andre’s shot on the turn hit Krepin Diatta.
Wolves’ pressure finally told 10 minutes before half-time. Kieran Trippier volleyed over a cross from the right, Armstrong’s first effort hit the near post but the striker forced home the rebound from a tight angle.
After the break, Watford’s Hector Kyprianou almost forced an own goal with a stooping header. The visitors’ only effort on goal came when Edo Kayembe’s speculative effort was scrambled behind by Jose Sa.
But a towering header from Ladislav Krejci was tipped away as Wolves pressed. A second Wolves goal almost came when Jordan Zemura cleared off the line after a Wolves corner hit Mattie Pollock.
