A calm Oliver Glasner believes everyone can see Nottingham Forest are “on the right track” despite a frustrating 1-1 draw at Ipswich on Friday night.
Forest produced a dominant display and went ahead in the 13th minute when Neco Williams finished off an excellent team move, but they squandered countless other chances and had to settle for a point in Suffolk as Julio Enciso equalised.
It has extended Forest’s winless run to four matches and they have only one win in eight Premier League fixtures – which was also the case in the 2025-26 campaign and it led to owner Evangelos Marinakis dismissing Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou by this point last year.
Yet a relaxed Glasner said: “Maybe we could play the press conference after Crystal Palace (defeat), but no we had a point at least.
“And the first thing I learned when I came to Premier League is respect the point and especially away.
“I think everybody agrees, even all the Ipswich supporters, that we had a very good away performance.
“Yes, the result, I think, doesn’t reflect the performance, but I don’t know a different solution than just to keep going because everyone sees, everyone feels we are on the right track, with the way we play, the way we create chances and also the way we defend.
“(Now) it’s supporting the players, keep the confidence and just waiting for this click. Maybe it’s an own goal or a deflected ball like we lost last week because then the results will follow the performances.”
Glasner was equally philosophical about a contentious moment at the start of the second half when referee Thomas Bramall failed to award a free-kick after Issa Diop hacked down Forest midfielder James McAtee.
VAR eventually intervened but after Bramall reviewed the incident, he only awarded a yellow card to Diop.
“I thought it was a red card,” Glasner added.
“It was today for me was the right procedure of how it should work. The referee takes a decision, the VAR intervenes, he goes to the screen and watches it and then he takes a decision.
“I think this (tonight) is how the procedure should work. Everything correct and it is just a different opinion.”
Opposite number Gary O’Neil agreed, saying: “It’s a foul, Issa misses the ball and catches McAtee. I thought Leif Davis was in a good position to cover, I think McAtee’s touch was slightly big and going away from goal probably, so I think they came to a real good conclusion, with a good process.”
Enciso’s smart 41st-minute finish rescued a draw for Ipswich to move them onto 10 points and O’Neil acknowledged they had to dig deep to frustrate Forest.
O’Neil added: “One where we had to show another side to get something from the game.
“One where togetherness, shutting up a little bit and being a bit safer got us through to the finish line. And proud of the players, because not easy to do that and a good point for us.”
