Conroy after Champion of Champions double

Ray McClean

KEVIN CONROY will attempt to complete a double in the Champion of Champions tournament at Shaws Bridge on Saturday.

The Oriel man won the singles crown for the second successive season at the same venue a fortnight and now bids to repeat that feat in the triples which he won in 2012. Conroy has been extremely successful having won seven CoC titles over the years and playing with father Sean and brother Aidan will be among the favourites to succeed.

However, with so many talented players competing the triples he's not taking anything for granted and says: "There are many talented contestants in the field and we'll have to be in top form to come out on top".

Among the major threats is the Ballylennon trio of David Crawford, Eddie Curran and John Quinn. The latter failed in the rinks a fortnight ago and will be hoping to atone by winning the triples title to two previous victories in the singles.

Former triples winners Gerry McCabe, Colm McHugh and Aidan Corrigan are also in the line-up. Raymond Stubbs, who lost out by a shot in the singles final two weeks ago will hope for better fortune when he contess the pairs competitions. Among his opponens will be former champions Alan Paul, Paddy Hanlon, Ryan O'Neill.

Also taking part will be Oriel brothers Nial and Shane Hand.
