JOEL Connolly is eyeing up a quick double on Wednesday evening when he takes on Robbie McGuigan in the final of the Northern Ireland U21 Championship in Drumaness.

The Belfast teenager retained his U18 title recently with a 4-0 final victory over Ryan Dornan from Drumaness at QE2 Snooker Club in Carrickfergus.

Connolly produced some heavy scoring against the recently-crowned U16 champion, breaks of 61, 96 and 114 (clearance) helping him to victory.

He moved on to Drumaness at the weekend to defend his U21 title and included a break of 90 in his 4-1 semi-final win over Shea Valentine.

Main Tour-bound McGuigan was even more impressive in his semi-final, the Antrim man firing in breaks of 113 and 129 in beating Gerard Heaney 4-1.

The first four quarter-finalists are known for this year’s Northern Ireland Amateur Snooker Championship, taking place at the Antrim Sports Club

NIBSA number one Patrick Wallace from Dungannon and Armagh’s Declan Hughes came through the first quarter and were followed the following day by Drumaness’s Darren Dornan and Gregory Cooke from 3Cs in Limavady.

NIBSA wishes to thank That Prize Guy and McKinney Competitions for their continued support.
